After one hour our six-year old son left without a trace of regret. "Edutainment" is all the marketing rage in the family entertainment industry and this place gives it lip service. We've visited several children's museums in the PA, DC and VA areas and they just don't compare. I would recommend any family with toddlers/ pre-schoolers visit. I noticed that the bad reviews were a year old or more so it seems to me Port Discovery has made more effort to offer more programs for little kids. The kids room was a lot of fun, though I agree it was a little small, but there were several other areas that was age appropriate for the children - the diner, the arts and craft area and a really cool farm area. We sang songs, danced and the story reader was very animated. We also took the girls to a story time - I was told they offer one every day for little ones - and they absolutely enjoyed it. We just recently visited Port Discovery with our three year old and her 4 year old cousin and we had a great time! We saw a performance by the Kindersinger who was throroughly entertaining and kept the kids' attention the whole time. Port Discovery is so much fun for little kids! After reading the other reviews, I was surprised that they weren't favorable. We didn’t use it as we had plenty of food with us, but I am sure that will be an added bonus and the grounds look beautiful.

But prices were reasonable in the vending machines.Īlso, there is a bonus that kids eat free at the glass gazebo right next to Port Discovery if you present your Port Discovery ticket. Junk is plentiful and I almost wish it wasn’t in the lunch area at all because it’s hard to keep kids away from it. Staff just can’t keep up with the massive amount of children and rotations.Ĭon: no cafe, no real food. Two caretakers and no effort to stop her from doing that so sanitize hands after every room if you don’t want to pick something up here. There was a child licking every block in the quiet area and then throwing them around. I am confident this place is a concentration of germs so that helps. What I loved the most is that sanitizers were abundant. Free lockers and coat room in the snack area. Not nearly as grand as the Indianapolis Children’s Museum, but I think nothing can beat that ever. This was definitely a step up from the National Children’s Museum in DC.

This is a lot of hands on learning and fun, trust me the kids will love it, ours did. When we purchased our tickets they had to different time frames to be able to enter and it looks like they only sell a certain amount of tickets so to ensure entry I recommend you lock in your time slot. Strongly suggest you purchase your ticket online to ensure admittance. The museum also has area for kids of all ages-toddlers up to about 12 years old. In another area they were able to put their artistic skills to the test.

In this area the kids were able to work at the restaurant and learn about how to work and prepare the meal they were serving. Another area they enjoyed was the diner/restaurant area. They loved being able to climb all the way to the top and then jumping on the slide. The favorite station for the grandkids was the climbing course. We essentially spent about 4 hours there and could have easily spent another 3 hours. From the minute we got there they were going from one exhibit area to another. They had so much fun being able to do and learn by being hands on. We took our grandkids and they absolutely loved it. If I could give this museum 10 stars I would.
